Phase 1 applications are due December 18.
The Houston Independent School District offers a portfolio of over 100 different magnet school options, all with a special theme or focus. There’s no need to worry about where you live: magnet schools don’t have zoned admission boundaries, and will admit students from all over the district.
Students from outside of HISD may apply; expect your answer late in the summer. Applications for out-of-district transfers will be held until Phase 3 (June 1, 2016).
Magnet schools allow families to choose the school that best meets their child’s academic needs and interests. Discover programming such as STEM, Vanguard, Fine Arts, Dual-Language, Early College and Career Readiness.
Parents can apply to 10 HISD magnet schools (5 of which may be Vanguard programs), and parents must rank their preferences. If the program you select for your child requires additional testing, school officials will contact you after receiving your application to coordinate those exams.
Phase 1 of the application period closes December 18. Notification of your student’s application status will be available in mid-March 2016.
