Brandon Olvera graduated from KIPP Houston in 2015 and is now studying at the University of Texas at Austin. He’s majoring in Management Information Systems and minoring in Finance. He loves the fast-paced high-stress environment of a large company and is excited to pursue his career in business. Specifically, Brandon is interested in consulting, where he can help businesses improve. Once he gets his career underway, he would like to serve on the board for KIPP so that he can use his business skills to serve in education. He either wants to stay in Houston or live in Dallas after graduation.

During this internship, Brandon is gaining more patience and learning more about the diversity present in Houston. He’s enjoying listening to people’s stories and learning about their backgrounds. He also particularly wants to help families find the best education options for their children, since he credits much of his success and personal growth to his own time at KIPP. He’s also using this opportunity to improve his communication skills, an important skill set going into the business world. He’s learning to deliver his message clearly despite many different circumstances and difficulties.

As a child, Brandon was convinced that he wanted to be a plastic surgeon, and it is only recently that he changed his plans to business.
