Joshua Martinez, usually called “Josh”, graduated from YES Prep East End in 2014. These days he’s studying Corporate Communications and Spanish at Lycoming College. He loves connecting with people, and wants to be able to develop friendships with as many people as possible. He anticipates that his knowledge of a second language will help him in that pursuit. In the long run, his goal is to be financially stable, so that he is able to provide a good life for his family.
Josh is using his time at Families Empowered to further his ability to communicate with others, especially those in a different place in life than he is like parents. He’s specifically working on his ability to communicate well over the phone, even without visual cues. By combining this experience in the call center with his formal study of communications, Josh believes he will be able to succeed and make a difference. He is very grateful for the opportunities he had at YES Prep and considers them to have played a large role in his life so far. He’s enjoying working over the summer in a position that allows him to help others experience the benefits of attending a school that’s a good fit.
Josh loves puppies and is looking forward to being able to adopt one at some point in the future.
