Austin, TX, March 28, 2015 — Crowds of charter school students, teachers, parents and supporters rallied at the seat of the Texas legislature on Wednesday to demonstrate support for public charter schools in Texas.
The rally, organized by the Texas Charter Schools Association, served to demonstrate the positive impact school choice and public charter schools are having in the lives of Texans.
Families Empowered continued its history of grassroots community organization by bringing along a charter bus of supporters from San Antonio, Texas.
“We’ve tried our neighborhood public school, private school, and homeschooling. Now he’s at a charter school and loves it. It’s been a really big deal for my family,” said San Antonio charter school supporter and parent, Inga Cotton.
“Public charter schools are an important part of the school choice picture,” said Colleen Dippel, Families Empowered’s Founder and Executive Director. “Charters are tuition-free public schools, where parents are not limited by school district boundaries.”
