Mom of Three: “I am in a better position to investigate and consider school options.”

Each of Adriana Roque’s three children has unique skills and strengths both in the classroom and in their personal lives. Her 11-year-old Carlos is an attentive, kind, and quiet child. On the other hand, 9-year-old Paulina and 5-year-old Brenda are lively and outgoing, Paulina excels in math, while Briana is an incredibly fast learner.

Carlos is currently attending a public charter school, and Briana and Paulina are enrolled at their traditional zoned school. Roque has been searching for other school options for each of her children because she feels that they are not able to utilize their strengths in their current classrooms. For Carlos, a bilingual school is important, but for Paulina and Briana discipline and focus is key.

After going through the school search process for her kids, Roque is still looking for a change. Initially she only applied to a single school and is now hoping to find a more personalized learning environment where Carlos, Paulina, and Briana can thrive.

“After speaking with Families Empowered, I learned about other school options including KIPP, YES Prep, and Harmony,” Roque said. “I had never heard of these schools before, and so I wasn’t sure if they were the right fit for my kids. Now that I’ve been through the process, I feel that I am in a better position to investigate and consider school options.”

Her advice to other parents who are searching for the right school for their kids is to find all of the information available. There is not a single school that is right for every child and understanding the details of the school that you are applying to will help to inform your decision. Starting with the grade levels offered is an easy first step. As she continues her search for the best school for her kids, Roque shared her simple hope for their future: “That my children will be able to go to college.”

Families Empowered provides parents with accurate, actionable information about all of their school options in order to help parents take back control of their child’s path to education.
