Teresa Martinez, who often goes by “Tere”, graduated from YES Prep Southeast in 2015. She’s currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the main campus of the University of Houston, though she’s considering switching her focus to Civil Engineering She’s enjoyed Mechanical Engineering but has recently been thinking Civil might be a better fit for her. She is looking forward to finding a secure job where she can be financially independent within the next few years. From there, she wants to begin to settle down.
Tere’s sister Veronica worked here last summer, and now Tere is excited to get the opportunity to join her at Families Empowered. Teresa is spending her time here learning professionalism and how to better communicate on the phone. She’s enjoying the opportunity to experience Houston’s great diversity first hand, as she comes into contact with new backgrounds, accents, and ideas daily. She’s also improving her ability to maintain her focus on a single task over long periods of time, even with difficult tasks and repetition. She believes this skill will be very useful to her in school and throughout her career.
Teresa loves her dog Bella like a child. Bella is super spoiled, and Tere is proud of her baby.
