In response to a growing demand for School Connection Fairs, Families Empowered held their first-ever January event on Saturday, January 24, 2015. Three hundred guests gave up their Saturday morning to meet with the over 120 schools that were represented at the fair.
Thanks to the generous support of local legend “Mattress Mack” Jim McIngvale, this first-edition fair was also held at an non-traditional location: Gallery Furniture in North Houston. Families came out for school options, and were treated to a slice of made-in-America sheet cake.
Families met with representatives from public neighborhood and public charter schools, private schools and online education programs. The schools represented all grade levels.
The Families Empowered mission is to empower families to engage in a marketplace of schools. At the School Connection Fairs, families are able to meet school representatives face-to-face, to learn about school options available to them.
“I’m proud of our team and thankful for the support of Mattress Mack and Gallery Furniture,” said Colleen Dippel, Families Empowered’s executive director and founder. “Together, we are introducing parents in our community to all of their school options.”
Application deadlines for the 2015/2016 school year are approaching. Don’t wait to apply, and risk missing out on your chance to attend the top schools on your list! Visit out Apply to Schools page, to learn more about the application process.
